Delgado Spotlight: Welder.

Mmm. Sparks are flying.

Mmm. Sparks are flying.

Welding as a career is one of the most flexible trade jobs out there. Welding is a process that joins two materials together by using high heat to melt the parts together. Think: real life Iron Man.

Take your superhero skills to manufacturing industries. You work on transportation equipment, industrial machinery, buildings and bridges, pipelines, railroads, power plants--ahhhh everything needs welding. So how do you learn this skill at DCC?

There are three different specializations in welding to study at DCC

Flux Cored Arc Welding & Gas Metal Arc Welding (FCAW & GMAW),

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

Each certificate takes only 9 months to complete.

These certificates are based on specializations set forth by the NCCER to get you your Welding Levels 1 and 2 and AWS Sense certifications. The cool thing about DCC? They have a special Welding Advisory Committee made up of local business and industry professionals from the Greater New Orleans area that help design the program and give you the most crucial training to make it as a welder.

According to DCC, welders in Louisiana earn $22.99 per hour/$47,810 per year on average, in a job that also receives a 5-star rating, and is expected to have a 4% increase in jobs by 2024. Not bad at all for only 9 months of training…
