Program Spotlight: Carpenters Training Fund Apprenticeship

Hi, my name is Holly and I’d like to be paid to learn, get hired in a full-time job, become an expert and earn, let’s say, $60,000 a year in four years’ time. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not.

Apprenticeships are an overlooked and (in)credible way to launch yourself into a career that pays well and is in high demand. One of many of these is the Carpenters Training Fund Apprenticeship

Carpentry is a skilled trade that takes hard work but yields a secure job with healthcare, retirement pension, and a career as a professional craftsman. This is a job best learned from experience. Rather than spending money at a four-year college to graduate unsure where to go next, after four years as an apprentice you have the hands-on knowledge to revolutionize an industry.

We hear, “Where are you going to college?” “What are you studying?” “What’s your major?” more often than we hear, “Superior Training”, “Professional Craftsman”, “Productive Workforce.” Well, that’s the motto of the Carpenters Training Fund of Louisiana. They are dedicated to showing businesses how apprentices can strengthen the industry. They are also dedicated to your learning.

There is no semester final grade that says, “Okay, you did it, that’s enough now. Good luck!” With an apprenticeship, the learning never stops. That’s why as an apprentice, you can earn money for further training. Businesses want and need competent workers, who are dedicated to training and improving their craft throughout their careers.

The Carpenters Training Fund describes it best: “Carpenters make up the largest single group of skilled workers in the country. To be a carpenter is to be a member of one of the oldest and most respected trades in the world.”

There are thousands and thousands of apprenticeships like this one out there; in a whole variety of fields. In my research, I decided to check out the US government website for apprenticeships to see what else is out there. Looks like I can work in the film industry as a studio apprentice. So what I’m saying is, apprentices are the new movie stars.

There are a million ways to go about finding a secure job, a dream job, a high wage job, and apprenticeships is one of the most rewarding, hands-on ways to get yourself into the workforce without mountains of student debt.
